About

Claire Sersun is a movement photographer. She first picked up her camera at the age of 13 in her hometown, El Segundo, CA. She later went on to study photography and dance from the nationally acclaimed performing arts college in NYC, Marymount Manhattan College.

Beyond photography, Claire is a dancer, movement coach, and web designer. She teaches private clients across the US and dances with Sonia Plumb Dance Company. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Web Design from the University of Florida. She leverages her unique background to bring perspective to her photography style and direction.

Artist Statement

As a multi-disciplinary artist, movement and discovering beauty is at the heart of my work. In the images I capture, I explore the tension of stillness in photography with the fluid and ephemeral nature of movement. I also focus on the performative process of capturing time: Who is performing and when? The subject, the photographer? And does it stop once the image is taken?

My work as a dancer, provides with me a unique perspective on how to interact with dynamic and evolving shapes in human form and landscapes. This allows me to continually co-create with those whose images I am capturing and push the boundaries of “what’s possible”.
